How We Began

Pure Yoga Studio grew from a simple observation: many yoga spaces felt either too exclusive or too impersonal. We wanted something different — a place where beginners would feel welcomed alongside experienced practitioners, where the focus remained on personal growth rather than perfect poses.

Our founders spent years practicing and teaching across Europe before settling in Amsterdam. They brought together their diverse backgrounds in Hatha, Vinyasa, and Yin traditions to create an approach that honours the roots of yoga while remaining relevant to modern life.

What started as small classes in a rented space has grown into a thriving community of over four hundred regular practitioners. Yet we have intentionally kept our class sizes small, because meaningful connection cannot happen in a crowd.

Our Philosophy

We believe yoga is for every body. Not the idealised body you see in magazines, but your body — with its histories, limitations, and unique capabilities. Our teaching emphasises awareness over achievement, breath over performance.

This philosophy shapes everything we do. Our instructors are trained to offer multiple variations of each pose, ensuring everyone can participate fully. We use props generously because they are tools for deeper practice, not signs of weakness. We speak about bodies with respect and without judgment.

"I avoided yoga for years because I thought I was not flexible enough. Pure Yoga showed me that flexibility is a result of practice, not a prerequisite. The instructors made me feel capable from my very first class."
— Thomas, began practicing at age 52

Traditional yoga philosophy teaches that the physical practice is just one part of a larger journey toward balance and self-understanding. While we primarily focus on movement and breath, we weave in mindfulness concepts that help practitioners carry their practice beyond the mat. Learning to notice your breath during a challenging pose, for instance, translates directly to noticing your reactions during stressful moments in daily life.

Our Values

Accessibility

Every class offers modifications for different abilities and experience levels. Yoga should meet you where you are.

Community

We create connections that extend beyond class time through events, workshops, and genuine care for each practitioner.

Integrity

We honour yoga's traditions while adapting thoughtfully to contemporary understanding of movement and health.

Sustainability

From our eco-friendly studio materials to our teaching approach, we think long-term about impact and wellbeing.

Our Instructors

Every instructor at Pure Yoga Studio holds internationally recognised certifications and completes ongoing training throughout their tenure with us. More importantly, they bring genuine passion for teaching and deep care for their students' journeys.

We encourage our teaching team to develop their unique styles within our inclusive framework. Some instructors bring playfulness and energy; others offer quiet, contemplative guidance. This variety means you can find classes that resonate with your temperament while knowing the core values remain consistent.

Many of our instructors have overcome their own physical or mental health challenges through yoga practice. They understand firsthand that showing up on the mat can be difficult, and they create space for that reality without judgment.
